Henry III - 13th Century Illuminated Manuscript.
An illuminated manuscript from the 1200s, depicting King Henry III, who reigned as monarch from the age 9 , in 1216 until his death in 1272.
At the start of Henry's reign, England was at war with France; but within 7 months the French had been defeated- and the business of securing the kingdom could begin. Henry III was responsible for major reinforcements and extensions at The Tower of London. Much of the walls around The Tower were built at this time; and remain standing.
Due to this monarch's major contrbution to The Tower, he was selected by artist Stephen B Whatley as one of the subjects for the 30 paintings that he was commissioned to paint for The Tower of London in 2000. Stephen took this image, now in The British Library, London, UK, as his inspiration; and the painting follows in this photostream.
