Groups and Networks

Fascinating - could you set one up that people could hotlink over and comment on specific bits either here or at Zoomer? The nine minute video made this more transparent and could be a new form - forget powerpoint :)!

What this is about in many ways is underlying control of data as well, where it is kept - who controls it and who do you share it with and in what fashion? Networks are adhocracies obviously but what about what Gee and Jenkins called "affinity spaces" - how do they fit in here because if conditions are right the organic often breaks out within the group.

And video - what about video? and especially the YouTube phenomenon? Disregarding the delivery mechanisms it is still relatively free because the site owners are restricted by the fact they cannot embed advertising in the videos as pre-roll info. At the moment it is fairly easy to have a remix culture within that environment - but cease and desist still pulls down a fair amount of content on there. Once enough deals are done with enough companies over IP then it will happen and the environment will change to a rich/ poor one necessarily and there is no way the group will have a say in that but will it change the dynamics. I guess when bandwidth and storage becomes so trivial then it might be possible to have Open Video networks and swarming technologies seem the more organic way to go on this perhaps?

This really does open up the Open Data debate - what services can we trust to be there tomorrow or even the day after to enable us to build these knowledge spaces which are - of course in our mind and communicated to each other rather than held in any repository...
