Fashion Rocks, or…Green

Fashion Rocks, or…Green

It turns out that the world really does look like this. Everyday when my friends in Maui turn off their neighborhood road they are confronted with this view. Stunning, especially with the power lines and the houses and the perfect light and the million flavors of green. So good.
I look at catalogues like Michael Kors or Neiman Marcus and I scoff, but really, I don’t. I scoff for my parents or whoever is trying to tell me that $1700 is too much for whatever it is. I know that. But I know, I just know, that those designers are looking for five of these million shades of green, and for that I love them. I believe them that they are working to create this moment in a dress or a shirt. They are placing a very high value on the effort to extract and convey the importance of our paying attention to the beauty that is right here. If I can’t see it coming off Okawa Drive in Maui then I can pay for it at the Prada boutique, but no matter how I get it, it is worth soaking in. Soak in this, my best effort for beauty, for my promise to stay present with “Green”. That is what I hear when I see the ridiculous fashion catalogues. Love it.

Like everyone else I want you to look at this big and with a black background and after having smoked a joint and with your lover by your side. Do all that and it will look awesome. Also, please visit my blog, because I want more readers. I would like you to love it and to have it speak to you on the deepest level and for you to subscribe and then repost what I write. Part of it is because of my insatiable ego, and the other part, is well, probably still my ego. I love you. Does that help?

Finally I would say this: I am a snob. I do not cherish banner posts. I want you to take the time to love it or hate it in writing. If you do, I will write back to you and say something pithy.

Forge Ahead

Forge Ahead

I have been up all night, mostly. I miss you all. My last foray to the ER was a call about a bar fight in the parking lot at 3am. I passed the bar on the way to the hospital and the cops were in force, the ambulances were pulling out and I casually followed them to the ER. I had heard from the dispatcher that there were two stab wounds from a parking lot fight (and I knew I had another kid waiting for me who had been drunk bike riding at 11pm and had a cracked kidney and spleen). So there I am, exhausted from having worked all day already, and there they are, two people who ran in to knives, maybe dying, maybe not and I am driving in my car and the radio is playing a Nirvana song I don’t like and it’s 3:15am.
When I get to the ER...

Three Times

Three Times

Three times. I have been married three times. Third time is charming. Problems in surgery seem to come in threes, at least that is what we always say: two bowel obstructions and it is midnight. I have one more ...

more? seriously, I want you to go right here( www.bendlight.me/2012/02/three-times/)
and read it all because as I read it I think it is a little beautiful.

..and the slow, gathering again, drawing my arms out and I’m smiling and my feet are rising and I am being lifted.

You might not know that doctors’ businesses in the US are going bankrupt. Mine did, not me personally, but the business. Medicine is a cog in the economy like everything else. Lots of cogs are blowing out. I have a story, like everyone who goes bankrupt.
