The Atrium: A Hidden Gem in Downtown New York

    Newer Older

After reading that this magnificent 9-story abandoned building will soon become a luxurious hotel called the Beekman Palace, I have decided to contact the developer to see if he would eventually let me in...which he did, after throwing him a couple of bucks. I have to say that legal urban exploration is definitely not comparable to the adrenaline rush caused by trespassing. That said, the place is located only a few blocks away from Wall Street and the area is under heavy surveillance these days due to the Occupy Wall St protests. Anyway, The Atrium was an absolute gem and undeniably well worth the "admission fee".

I always LOVE seeing pictures of this place, and some day I hope to also make my way inside.
Your keen eye has captured the details very well!

Wow, belle bâtisse et bel endroit.
Je trouve qu'on y retrouve une architecture européenne.

Never done legal urbex but if it's the only way in then I would pay to see this place. I remember seeing it in the papers over there a couple years ago, always been high on my list. Great pics.

It was my first legal urbex trip and certainly the last. Definitely less fun than finding your own access points and all....but it was indeed the only way. Trespassing in Manhattan can be quite serious...especially 3 blocks away from Wall Street. But I just had to see this place before renovation starts next month...

Great work. You might want to take a look at Danny Lyon's "The Destruction of Lower Manhattan" which chronicles an earlier time of demolition and construction - bleakbeauty.com/dlm.html

Superbe... ça va faire un bel hôtel... Encore un endroit que le péquin moyen ne va plus pouvoir voir, un truc de riche quoi.
Chapeau d'avoir pu faire ces clichés, faut vraiment que je revienne à Big Apple moi...

Charles, this is fantastic. Is there any way still to shoot this? I'm coming to NYC this weekend and would love to figure out a way into this amazing creature!
