Powderhorn Portrait

In the yard at 12th and 31st, with a chair we actually found in the yard. Myself and my partner, the novelist Geoff Herbach. We leave in two weeks for Mankato—but the Big Yellow House on the corner will remain in the family.

Game, set, and match

Game, set, and match

The tennis courts on the northwest side of the park met their match and lost today under the direction of Minneapolis Parks and Recreation. The courts were truly in terrible condition for playing tennis, and the fence around it was a safety hazard (though many in the neighborhood used the courts to exercise dogs off leash, or to teach kids to ride bikes). According to District 3 Commissioner Scott Vreeland it was cheaper to remove the courts than to repair them. Neighbors had strong feelings about this, but the unsafe fence meant the courts were lost. You can read about the issue at: forums.e-democracy.org/groups/mpls-poho/messages/topic/7N.... (Thanks for the tip, Gayla!) What would you do with the space? Serve up your ideas on e-democracy.org.

Marian and Balqi

Marian and Balqi

Two of Powderhorn's hardworking women break for a laugh at South City Cafe. Marian owns the place, and Balqi grabbed a pastry there before heading to work at the Family Services Center down the block. Behind them: part of the Powderhorn 365.com exhibit. (Btw—South City was hoppin' this morning.)
