WINTER

Some photograper's say that winter is not a time to take pictures, because there are almost no colours.
They only go out when it snows, because snow is beautiful. (duh...and so 20.000 Flicrinos are going out and take winter shots, there goes your “being original”)
I believe that every time of year has it's oppurtunities, even when sky's are grey and dull.
Why do we always think the same way, make pictures like everyone else does?
Thinking out of the box is a great way to live your life, not only in photography!

When there are no colours, take pictures in b&w or sepia!
When Mother Nature has no flowers, take pictures of trees, leaves and grass!
When the sky is “dull”, use your imagination!
When it rains, stay inside and see what there is to do in your own home! (or buy an all weather camera)
Don't give up because the weather conditions are not exactly what you have been hoping for!
We are PHOTOGRAPHERS aren't we?
Let's ROCK!

By the way, in western Europe it seems like winter is coming at last, come on babe, I've got my all weather camera ready!

Have a nice week ahead my friends!

Happy Chinese New Year! 2012: the year of the Dragon

Happy Chinese New Year! 2012: the year of the Dragon

Though one day late, wishing all of my contacts a happy chinese newyear!
2012 is the year of the dragon.

Tomorrow are the celebrations for the chinese new year in Rotterdam.
To go with the flow, here's an upload of a chinese dragon!

The Chinese New Year:

The Chinese year begins on the second new moon after the solstice of December 21. This is never beforee January 21 and after February 20. Also known as: the beginning of the Spring Festival (Ch'un-Chieh) or Xin Nian (New Year).

2012 Year of the Dragon / Draak (in dutch)

This festival (and the next two days there) is celebrated by almost all of Asia - and everywhere a clear Chinese population has settled. It is celebrated on the first day of the first month of the Chinese calendar, which is the day when the second new moon after the winter solstice occurs.

It is usual to pay debts, to buy new clothes, and the house is cleaned. There is usually a big family meal and the gods are honored. People give each other gifts, wrapped in red paper - and fireworks wrapped in red paper cutter.

The parties can also be three or even five days long. The third day is the Birthday of Che Kung. The same data are also valid for Tet in Vietnam and the Lunar New Year in Mongolia.

Chinese New Year is traditionally celebrated with dragon dances and lion dances.

According to legend, Nian ("Nyehn") a man-eating prey in ancient China, which houses could enter undetected, soon learned that the Chinese Nian was sensitive to loud noise and the color red, and dispossessed him with explosions, fireworks, and frequent use of the color red in the house. This use led to the first New Year celebrations.

The festival is celebrated internationally in areas with large populations of ethnic Chinese. Except for Chinese, the party is also important for other ethnic groups such as Mongols, Koreans, the Miao (Chinese Hmong) and the Vietnamese, which the Chinese culture have been influenced in terms of religious and philosophical worldviews and language and culture in general .

The Chinese New Year is also the time when the largest human migration takes place when Chinese all over the world return home on New Year's Eve dinner with their families.

TAO TE CHING / DAO DE JING 14

TAO TE CHING / DAO DE JING 14

TAO TE CHING / DAO DE JING
14.

Dito matatarok ang tatlong ito;
Sa gayon magkahalo’t nagiging isa.
Mula sa itaas hindi ito maliwanag.
Mula sa silong hindi ito madilim.
Mahigpit at bawal, hindi maituring;

NEDERLANDS

Omdat wij ernaar kijken en niet zien,
wordt het onzichtbaar genoemd;
omdat wij ernaar luisteren en niet horen,
wordt het onhoorbaar genoemd;
omdat wij ernaar reiken en niet treffen,
wordt het ontastbaar genoemd;
Men noemt het vorm zonder vorm, beeld zonder iets.
Men noemt het onbepaald en ongrijpbaar;
om het heden te bedwingen;

ENGLISH

We look at it, and we do not see it, and we name it 'the Equable.' We listen to it, and we do not hear it, and we name it 'the Inaudible.' We try to grasp it, and do not get hold of it, and we name it 'the Subtle.' With these three qualities, it cannot be made the subject of description; and hence we blend them together and obtain The One.

Its upper part is not bright, and its lower part is not obscure. Ceaseless in its action, it yet cannot be named, and then it again returns and becomes nothing. This is called the Form of the Formless, and the Semblance of the Invisible; this is called the Fleeting and Indeterminable.

We meet it and do not see its Front; we follow it, and do not see its Back. When we can lay hold of the Tao of old to direct the things of the present day, and are able to know it as it was of old in the beginning, this is called (unwinding) the clue of Tao.
