Another Queen Street fire?![]() ![]() My friend Connie and I were leaving the Cameron House when a group of people standing on the sidewalk and street, were screaming across the street, along with someone in a car honking their horn. We understand what was happening until we walked closer to the group and looked up, seeing a fire blazing out of the third floor above a residential/retail building.
The group of people screaming and honking their horn thought someone was still up there, and Connie and I stood there in frozen terror and sadness of what was happening in front of us. The firefighters came in and after 15 minutes upon arriving, the fire was under control and eventually put out. I can't imagine what it's like to lose everything, and seeing that tenant try to go back inside and recover some of his stuff before help came, even as the fire was eating away the old building, was heartbreaking to see. The fire of Queen West Fire in 2007 is fresh in our memories. UPDATE: this story was featured in today's issue of Torontoist, read it here. also a correction to my facts: the great fire of Queen West was actually in February of 2008, not 2007. And excuse my writing too... I was a bit shaken up by what happened. Comments.stephcloutier.
