- One of the filters lets you view your tagged contacts photos filtered by a specific tag. Another one lets you view them filtered by a text search on the photo's title, description and tags. Other filters available are: most recent photos, earliest photos, photos of yours they've faved etc
- You can add and delete tags via the +tag and -tag links
- If you install another of my GM scripts, flickrPM, a useful mini toolbar will be displayed for each user.

Flickr Contacts Organiser - GreaseMonkey Script
I wrote a new GreaseMonkey script called "Flickr Contacts Organiser"
Latest version: v0.77c released 24th Mar 2011
It lets you tag your contacts, which can help you to find them again, and also keep up with their photostreams etc.
You can actually tag any flickr user they dont need to be your contacts in order for you to tag them. You can even tag users that have blocked you or you have blocked.
The tags are stored locally on your machine and are thus private to you.
To tag a user you can either do it from the contacts page, where a +tag link will be added next to users icons, or their recent photos, or theres also a “Tag this Person” menu item added to the "BuddyIcon" menus, which you can activate by hovering over a users Buddy Icon.
Once youve tagged some contacts, if you go to the contacts page you can view the contacts listed by tag, there is also a select box called “Current Filter” You can change the filter to view photos and other assorted info from those tagged users.
The current list of available filters are:
* Most recent photos
* Earliest photos
* Recently favourited photos
* Most interesting photos
* Least interesting photos
* Random photos
* Their videos
* Their sets
* Their collections
* Their galleries
* Photos of yours theyve faved
* Photos of theirs youve faved
* Photos tagged with…
* Photos text includes…
* Their contacts
* Their contact's photos
* Contacts you have in common
* Faves you have in common
* Photos of theirs you have commented on (or favourited)
* Photos of yours they have commented on (or favourited)
* Photos they have commented on
* Their photo tags
* Photo tags you have in common
* Their Groups
* Groups you have in common
* Testimonials they have received
* Testimonials they have given
*NEW FUNCTIONALITY 19th April 2007*
Ive added functionality for backing up and restoring your tags, 4 new menu items have been added in the "Tools/Greasemonkey/Userscript Commands" or "Tools/Userscript Commands" menu (depending on what version of GM you are using):
1) You can backup your tags datastore to your flickrmail account
2) You can restore your tags datastore from your flickrmail account
3) You can display your raw tags datastore.
4) You can restore your datastore via direct input of the raw tags
datastore code (you would need to copy and paste the datastore from
the first menu item or from your flickrmail)
This script is a work in progress so expect some more features RSN ;-)
You can get all my other scripts here along with all my other greasemonkey scripts for flickr.

I can't get this to work on FF 2.0.
birdyboo (79 months ago | reply)
This is such a useful script. I am using FF 2 and the latest version but ,although the other filters work as expected, the two filters Photos of theirs you have commented on and Photos of yours they have commented on still do not work for me.
I'm wondering if anyone else is finding this and most especially if anyone has found a way to get those filters to work. The Flickr balls do their thing but no pictures appear.

steeev (79 months ago | reply)
tux, im not using ff2 yet, so cant help you, the script should work on ff2 though, as i havent had any other complaints. its most probably a clash of scripts, try disabling other scripts that also affect the page, and see if it starts working, also try uninstalling and reinstalling it.
bb, google changed the output format of their search results, ive updated the script to work with the new format, try it now.
tuxcomputers (79 months ago | reply)
Ummm.. I worked out what I was doing wrong.. I hadn't added any tags to any contacts so it could not display anything.. when I added the first tag it looked like it is supposed to.
What threw me off was that the link to add a tag was a light grey and I did not notice it at first :)
birdyboo (79 months ago | reply)
Thank you steev for this wonderful script. I installed the new version (v.0.373) and (after I uninstalled it and got rid of my local preferences and reinstalled it) - the filter for Photos of theirs... worked right off the bat but Photos of yours... did not.
By trial and error I modified the script so now both work. I am not sure whether the only change that was needed was the last one (changing ' to " in the Photos of yours... filter). I expect you will see what's needed right away.
Thanks again for this and your other scripts that add so much to the enjoyment of this site.
Seen in my recent comments. (?)
steeev (79 months ago | reply)
bb fyi you shouldnt have to uninstall the old script, especially not the preferences, as that removes all the previously saved tags. also both filters in question work fine for me, so i dont need to change anything. i have no idea why they dont work for you, are you using a mac by any chance?
Shemer (78 months ago | reply)
Thank you so much! This is heaven. This is the one thing that was missing for me on Flickr.
Thank you!

Nice script steeev !! finding advantages of it more and more now a days. By the way, How to see my own photos on the similar lines which are visible in drop down list box? I guess I can't add myself as contact.

for the people having problems with losing their tags, i think ive finally nailed this bug, the latest version can detect if the tags datastore has been corrupted and wont display, and will attempt to fix them automatically.
Ive also added functionality for backing up and restoring your tags. Ive also added 4 new menu items, in the "Tools/Greasemonkey/Userscript Commands" or "Tools/Userscript Commands" menu (depending on what version of GM you are using):
1) You can backup your tags datastore to your flickrmail account
2) You can restore your tags datastore from your flickrmail account
3) You can display your raw tags datastore.
4) You can restore your datastore via direct input of the raw tags datastore code (you would need to copy and paste the datastore from the first menu item or from your flickrmail)
the backup and restore functionality will mean users who want to use the script on multiple computers, will be able to export their tags from one computer and import them on the other/s.
there is a little bit of a bug when restoring your tags after storing them in flickrmail, any usernames with "non standard" characters may get a bit mangled, though this wont affect the majority of the scripts functions or usernames. though i will see if i can fix this.

Updated: 4th May 2007
Added "Recent photos of this user" and "Interesting photos of this user" filters. These do a search for the following tags: "me,selfportrait,flickr:user=username" on the users photostream, and return either the most recent or most interesting matching photos depending on the filter you choose.
Added recent+interesting "Photos tagged with..." filters, which works similar to the previous addition, except with this one you can choose the tag/s you want to search for.
I also fixed the "testimonials they wrote" filter and the intermittent stream duplication bug.

Updated: 19th May 2007 v0.491
the bug that caused usernames with "non standard" characters may get a bit mangled when restoring your tags after storing them in flickrmail, has been fixed and the script also has support for unicode tags now. another feature is when clicking the add tag link, you can see if the contact has already been tagged or not, as it displays a list of that users tags in the dialog box

This script is awesome, almost everythin I was looking for!
I only miss one feature, a "has you" filter" showing the users that have me as a contact...
I have a bubch of contacts I would like to cleanup if they don't have me added as their contact too.

This is potentially sooo great and just what I was looking for!! Alas for some reason the two filters that i was most interested in don't work...."Photos of yours they have commented on" amd "Photos of theirs you have commented on"....hope there is a simple reason or fix?
Anyway thanks again
Sam
steeev (50 months ago | reply)
you might not have the latest version, as i fixed that part of the script recently. the latest version is 0.65 which you can get from here: steeev.freehostia.com/flickr/ along wtih the latest versions of all my other scripts.
samand_t (50 months ago | reply)
Have v0.65 however still a blank.Not having much luck today with Flickr.Discovered guest passes only to find out they dont really work.
Funny thing other scripts work like a charm.These two start to "load" and then nothing.
anyway cant complain as is free and no doubt works for others
Cheers
Sam
steeev (50 months ago | reply)
the way that particular function works, is it does a google search for the data, and it only checks the first page of googles results. what this means is it will only show a comment, if its been indexed by google, for this reason recent comments will not show up, as it takes time for google to add new pages to its search index, it will also only display a limited subset of comments, as its only checking the first page.
samand_t (50 months ago | reply)
Thanks for explanation.No comments are appearing either new or old so presumably not indexed by google.It surprises me that google could access these comments if they were private.Does it only work on public photos (which may explain things).Secondly,how does it search google,what does it feed google...the screename of both flickr members?
Cheers and thanks again
Edit-Actually I just checked on a public pic I commented on some time ago.The script for "recent comments on their photos" identified the photo but not my comment specifically."Photos of theirs you have commented on" drew a blank . :-(
steeev (34 months ago | reply)
@samand_t yes it only works on public photos. it searches for the screenames (actually screename of commenter and url of image owner) ive updated the code for this, so it should be more reliable and also, now if there are more than 8 comments, i add a link directly to the google search results.
ive also added inline video functionality, if you select any of the video filters, the users videos will now be playable inline in the contacts organiser screen, have also added a filter for "galleries" and "collections"

script updated to v0.77a to fix login/username bug
steeev (27 months ago | reply)
script update: v0.77b updated to remove "photos with recent comments" filter as it no longer works. updated "photos of theirs you have commented on" and "photos of yours they have commented on" filters, to fix it for the new photo page design, and the filter now also includes favourites as well as comments.
