The same room? Or do all the Grand Courts look the pretty much the same? Guess where I'm going on Sunday!

There's something very appealing about parquetry floors, like the old woodblock roads.

Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong century ...

It certainly looks to be the same room.

I can confirm it is the same room. Today it is known as the John Schaeffer Galleries (19th century European art). I could have picked a better time to visit - what seemed the entire population of Sydney was packed in the foyer listening to Gilbert & George. You had to fight your way through to the galleries.

    Hi there,

Just wanted to let you know we used a copy of this image for our show Word of Mouth, for an interview with "Priceless" author Robert Wittman about recovering stolen art. Here's a link if you'd like to see it:

Brilliant labour of love! i don't think I have heard of any of those artists, which says more about my ignorance than about changing tastes in art.

Does the AGNSW know? I think they would be fascinated.

I just added a comment in their photostream here : )

Thanks for the photo, the tags, and the post on the AGNSW photostream. I can confirm that it is indeed the 19th c European art court. By the way, pellethepoet, the URL in your very first comment has changed. It's now: archive.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/media/archives_2009/grand_c...

Thanks Jonathan, I've updated the broken link. By the way, the new website is great - especially the permanent links to the collection entries.

You (I guess I mean the AGNSW) may be interested in the "Equivalent" galleries I've been assembling with the help of beachcomberaustralia.
