Ah! The flea pit! I'd never been inside and was sad when it was pulled down.

Brings back the memories - I was a regular visitor in the early 1970s and was lucky enough to go to its final screening; a so-so thriller called "The Bedroom Window".

Looking at this picture evokes memories if the sixties when I used to frequent this cinema. It was the only cinema in the area to have double seats for lovers in the balcony. I can still smell the all pervading aroma of damp and dry rot that permeated the building on every visit. A beautiful rouched silk curtain rose and fell with each presentation. It specialised in foreign films in the sixties. These were often advertised as being a bit racey but rarely were. Some French classics such as Jules et Jim played here. It was a pretty little cinema inside and although never a top attraction in the area is still missed by those of us old enough to remember it.

I think it had been called the Plaza. Along with a few other halls in the Bournemouth area it had been operated by Harry Mears. In its final peiod it was run the the man who had a small distribution company "Amanda Films"

Now I rather liked this flea-pit cinema as my dad said it was a flea pit like the one on commercial road Bournemouth LMAO that bad then huh!
Saw a double bill of the Planet of the Apes there I think it was 1979/80 sat in the circle with my dad, never knew he was into the Planet of the Apes, or was it me that was into The Planet of the Apes as they had TV serial running around mid 70's I think and I'd never seen The Planet of the Apes in scope Panavsion before, TV didn't do justice to films on TV in the early days with panned & scanned, only place to see them was at the cinema.
I kinder miss this ole cinema the pub that now sits on the same spot stinks badly when travelling on the bus and stops outside it, waiting for the traffic-lights to change the smell of that rotten beer YUCK I want the bus to move it because the smell is fucking foul!
I noticed a bulldog pissing on the pub two weeks ago, LOL yeah that made my day.
LOL I wasn’t into aroma sniffing seats when the cinema was still open to the public. I guess you was into sniffing “lover seats” then. LOL
