thanks, Eric, Kim, Javier, Cesar and Rosy! it was at Metro Center in the afternoon and the rest of the platform was bustling with activity.

(see, Washingtonians - and the tourists who annoy them - have this thing about wanting to board just the car in the center, not the ones on the ends, so the ends of the platform typically get populated just during rush hour.)
