Iz's Position on Gay Marriage

My daughter's teacher asked her 2nd graders to write an I Have a Dream essay in honor of MLK Jr. My seven year old wrote that she wished gay marriage was legal. This may very well be my proudest moment as a parent.

Iz is on the right as the flower girl. She didn't finish the ring bearer, he is a floating head. The wedding rings are sitting on a pillow on the left.

I burst into tears! When I think about my life... oh man... I'm so happy that our kids get to grow up with something different right from the start.

Such a powerful essay for a 7 year old. She could teach politicians quite a few things. Congrats on raising a wonderful daughter.
She also writes much more clearly than I do.

This made my day also... its so wonderful that a child this young can be so open minded. I wish every child was being brought up like this.

That is so cute and wise :-) We are lucky that gay marriages are legal here in the Netherlands. It's not for me, but Iz says it well : people of the same gender who love each other should be able to make that commitment legally :-D

    15. Mi-ly (60 months ago | reply)

That is darling - you should be proud.
And how smart is she to even know the word "gender" at that age!
      Brilliant.

So now I have to post a card we received from an 8 year old friend:
Congratulations (from an 8 year old friend)

I am really puzzled at your comments

It is not a good thing to be proud of at all

I mean where is the pleasure in it
God has not created us to abandon and neglect his rules of life

I can not approve of such thing and for a little girl who is only seven I believe she watches television a lot to come out with this ridiculous thought

forgive me but it is provoking indeed

that's so cute, i love it!
and just ignore the ignorant comment above :]

SaLMiNa 206, it is my hope that your faith eventually steers you towards greater empathy for all people.

It's incredibly moving that a child of only seven has the courage to speak her mind on this pressing issue. I hope her dream comes true.

      What a beautiful message.

What a shame those incapable of seeing the beauty choose to spew their hate with no provocation.
