Do you know how hard it is to find red shoes in an 11? And now I've got red ones, and pink ones, and green ones, and... highly configurable ones. (If you find joy in hacking your Chacos, these shoes will keep you entertained for hours. I'm guessing. *ahem*) Now I need to commit, to this configuration and length, and trim the ribbons. Yay, shoes!

I am in awe! I had never considered hacking
my Chacos, but I do have two pair. Hmm... I
am now gazing on the older pair with a glint
in my eye that would send them scurrying for
the back corner of my closet if only they
knew.

These are truly fabulous! And great timing
for summer. Now can I find the pair of
sandals I was about to throw out?

do the tacks stay in snuggly? i have done
a similar redo, but the soles were hard faux
wood type. i love that your foamy soles
seem to work!

Love it! Do you know a good how-to for
hacking Chacos? I have an old pair with torn
straps and I would love to replace them but
the inner workings are mysterious.

Thanks, everybody! ^_^
Okay, I unintentionally misrepresented about
hacking Chacos, I haven't done anything
fancier than flatten the toe loop, and try
tying a strap around the back of the heel. (I
have the Zong style instead of the Unaweep,
and I kinda wish I didn't.) So I really
meant: endlessly fiddling with and tugging
at. Regarding repairs, the Chaco company offers that service ... but maybe you were thinking something
more DIY, Kitty_Kamikaze. ^_^
Veggiesteph, the soles on these are like
pencil erasers, just big, chunky rubber all
the way through. Therefore, the tacks stay in
nicely (so far; haven't road tested them
extensively).
And just to reiterate credit where it is
due, I was inspired by utter shoe envy for
the lovely styles made by Annie Mohaupt .
Thanks for the nice comments. I'm glad y'all
got a kick (a kick! Get it?) out of my shoe
hack.

From another size 11, I say huzzah! Fabulous
job, and thanks for explaining the process so
well with all the pictures.
