The Road Less Travelled by spotmaticfanatic

The Road Less Travelled

Camera: Asahi Pentax Spotmatic F. Efke 400 film processed in D-76 1+1. Wellington and Albert, Ottawa, ON.

This is another section of Wellington Street that was abandoned, presumably when the Lebreton Flats were expropriated and levelled in the mid 1960s. Gone is another meandering street, taking you through the original settlements in the Ottawa area, replaced with an attempt to fuse several streets together, to make sure that cars can get in (and more likely out) of downtown efficiently.

The City Series No. 5: Old And New by spotmaticfanatic

The City Series No. 5: Old And New

Camera: Kiev 4a, f2 55mm Jupiter lens. Plus-X processed in D-76 1+1. Wellington and Hamilton, Ottawa, ON.

I was struck when I processed this shot on how little has actually changed along Wellington Street, the main drag in my 'hood, in the last several decades. Low rise storefronts still dominate the streetscape; the former Elmdale Theatre is still a temple, albeit of religious worship, rather than cinematic; and the ocassional old car comes my way to make it interesting. That being said, the new things are evident: the theatre is gone, replaced by a complex in the 'burbs; the stores sell PC parts now, not simple home gadgets, and Subarus abound, wreaking havoc on the most pleasant of otherwise retro looking shots.

The technology for this shot was even rather dated. I got the feel of this shot partially by using 32 year-old Kodak Plus-X that I bought at an antique store.
