The Lone Oak, infrared

The Lone Oak, infrared by Spookygonk.
A solitary mature Oak in a field near RHS Hyde Hall in S E Essex. I've been visiting this tree for three years now through different seasons and weather conditions. The open hillside is particually photogenic and looks great in infrared.
This is how the photo came out from the Nikon, just resized to 800x600 for flickr. Just a shame there's some jpeg noise, but it is old technology (and you could write a book waiting for the camera to save a tif file).
Nikon CoolPix 950 with with WC-E63 wide angle lens and Harrison & Harrison 98B infrared filter.

I saw your comment in rustman's photo of the Coolpix 800 and I wanted to ask you: how do you do it? just put the filter in front of the lens?

Hi Silly. Yes, you put the filter in front of the lens. The 800 & 950 are so sensitive to infrared that you can actually see the image in the LCD in bright light. The lens of the 950 takes a 28mm filter(I assume the 800 has the same lens diameter) and the WC-E63 takes a 72mm dia filter. I used a Harrison & Harrison 89B IR filter as I read that was the best one for false colour photography.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, yes, they're the same diameter. I'll give it a try soon; sounds much cheaper than using IR film
