Inspiration: New to York

Simplicity with type. I know who's website this is, what he does, and can find out more with a click of "About."
Tyler has a way with words. Just read this little text blurb about how this site runs on Squarespace, which is hilarious.
Individual blog posts have headlines, dates, and easy to spot links to the full articles.
Reversing the colors here helps the title stand out as the obvious thing to look at first, rather than the 2 columns to the left.
Fantastic illustration work that doesn't scream for attention.
Inspiration: New to York by Patrick Haney.
Tyler Thompson is the Creative Director at Squarespace, so it's no surprise that his blog is well designed. I'm intrigued by the illustration work and the boldness of the color he's chosen. The navigation is simple, the layout is straightforward, and yet it feels detail oriented. Visiting the Words section reveals a reverse of color to keep the actual blog posts readable with dark text on a white background.

Add to that Tyler's bit of pithy commentary for users of IE6. (You're an asshole; He hates you.) This is why we need to save IE6 - it's so much fun to make fun of.

Carl: That footer is pretty fantastic, yes. I've seen it on other Squarespace sites as well.
