I would definitely rather have something like this on my wall than blank boring concrete. The definition of vandalism is up for interpretation.

So, front page of Digg for some really crap scribble on a wall?
I'm glad that the internet is pervading our lives so thoroughly that we all find this a worthwhile use of time and effort.
Whatever happened to appreciation for actual talent? I'm sure this would actually be worthwhile if it was decent artwork without the need for the 'political commentary' of scrawling it just out of view of a security camera.
Well done for getting your 15 minutes of fame for absolutely no value to the world whatsoever.

@driftzone:
- Who are you to decide what others should like?
- Why join flickr just to spew venom?
- Why not just move along?
- Why didn't you post your insightful commentary on Digg (the diggers dug it, not Flickrenos, right?)

mcarrode says:

Uh... driftzone... get over yourself you pretentious prick. Its witty, and clever; It's not meant to be a masterpiece. Not everything enjoyable requires abstract or deep thought (though I am not against either of the two).
Posted 20 months ago. ( permalink )

view profile

driftzone says:

Its not my intention to impose my views or beliefs on others, however when Digg (a valuable source of information that I use daily) becomes inundated with pointless exercises in self promotion such as this, it affects me. More crap to wade through between the actual interesting and informative.
I think spewing venom would be more apptly applied to mcarrode's post (pretentious prick is rather venomous) than to mine. My comment was more a commentary on the state of the world we live in. When a "pointless" act of vandalism is held up and lauded, it is more proof of the selfish, wasteful society that we live in.
And mccarrode, I still fail to see what could be construed as witty or clever in the photo. Trespassing on someone elses property? Causing some poor property owner the expense of removing the vandalism? Creating an eye sore on an already bland, featureless building?
Maybe I am missing the point. So could someone explain to me what is clever, witty or even vaguely talented about this?

Carleton! says:

Again, why complain here? Complain on Digg. Your fellow diggers floated it to the top of digg. Take it out on them. Not the photographer.

Express yourself with your vote on Digg. Others did and that's how it made it to the top. You are obviously in the minority. 2100+ diggs and obviously not enough burys.

(last post, I promise)

I used to Digg. But, the commentary started to go to sh*t (like Youtube). That's why I quit.

Don't bring the negative to Flickr. Flickr is pretty nice and tame when it comes to comments. I think we all like it that way.

sintixerr  Pro User  says:

to driftzone: As the husband of the photographer in question, I have a few comments -

First: Carleton is right. Someone -else- posted this to digg, not the photographer nor the graffiti "author" (whom the photographer doesn't know and hasn't met).

Second: The picture was taken because it was an unexpected sight and got a "heh :)" while walking down the road. The photographer repeatedly complains that it really is not, technically, a particularly good picture. No one has claimed it's art.

Third: It hasnt been politicized, but as someone who DOES work in security, I can tell you it -very- eloquently demonstrates a fundamental problem in how "security" is dealt with in nearly all theaters.

Fourth: I guess if a few thousand people find something cute or worthwhile, someone has to play the a-hole. Congrats! Today, you're it! :)

Chill out and laugh at something -silly- :)

Firstly, I would like to apologise to spiggycat and sintixerr. I was not trying to cast aspersions on the quality of your photography or your intentions with regards to this image post. Unfortunately, I categories this photo with such internet phenomenon as Corey Delaney (that may be an Australian-only reference), whereby it is promoting and encouraging anti social and destructive behaviour.
Flickr is the wrong forum for a rant about the rights and wrongs of the internet, so I'll jump off my soap box.
