EXPOSED Dance Initiative:
How-To Shoot With Window Light Tutorial:
This was a photograph I was not expecting to take. I had come prepared for dancer headshots with a long telephoto lens but was asked to do a quick impromptu group photograph. Good thing us photographers are expected to handle the unexpected eh? :P
I had only one light and umbrella and a 70-200mm F2.8 lens which is normally considered to long for group shots. I decided to do something fun and position them in front of a large window which I had been using.
I over exposed the window and fill flashed the group using the one Canon 580EXII through a reflective umbrella positioned right behind me. I like how the window behind the dancers wraps them in light and provides subtle hair and rim lighting. It's a neat effect!
I ended up shooting at 75mm on a 1.6x crop factor body so it wasn't too bad but I was lying down on the floor quite a ways away.
