Day 55...

Today's picture comes from a very snowy Christmas season in Ontario. During this particular winter we actually had snow, rather than rain and mud, which made for some great pictures. While I was taking some pictures of my in-law's barn, I noticed this tractor buried in the snow. Naturally, I thought it would make for another good picture for my portfolio.

Processing for today's picture was relatively light. I applied a Lomo effect so I could bring out the color and texture of the tractor, and then added a light vignette.

Day 54...

As I was hunting through my old pictures today, I stumbled upon this rather odd one. For some reason, it just appeals to me and I thought it would make an interesting picture for the day.

The picture itself is my attempt at macro photography on a pink/purple flower that was part of a bouquet I bought for my wife. Originally I remember not liking the picture because I could not see every petal clearly. As I look at the picture today, though, I am enjoying the reddish-purple coloring and the three petals sneaking out of the background.

Day 53...

For the past few days, my mother-in-law has been staying at the house and helping out with our son after his surgery. During her stay, she has been working on making for me and my wife a new blanket made of blue jeans. She made a similar blanket for us last year (a partial picture of which can be found in my previous 365 project) and we absolutely love how warm it keeps us. Unfortunately, it's slightly too short for our bed, so we asked my mother-in-law to make us a larger version. My picture for today is a close-up of the sewing machine working its magic on a piece of our new blanket.

For processing of today's picture I started with adjustments to the levels and altered the curves for additional contrast.

Day 52...

Today I was searching through some of my old macro shots and I came across this little nugget. A couple of years ago, during the Halloween season, my wife and I stumbled upon some decorative corn at the local market. We purchased a few ears to use as decorations, but loving macro photography I decided to also use one of the ears as a prop. It is definitely a random shot, but I really love the smoothness of the corn's kernel and the various textures and colors.

To get the desired look, I started by applying a Lomo effect and slightly adjusted the levels. I was initially going to add a vignette, but found that it took something away from the quality of the image.

Day 51...

One of my favorite photography subjects has always been water drops, be them dropping into a bowl of water or dangling off the edge of a plant. My picture for today is a water droplet hanging off the end of one of my wife's bamboo plants.

Typically I like to grab these types of pictures after a nice rain storm or after the snow melts. Since my wife's bamboo plant is an indoor plant, for this shot I had to fake it a little. Taking a glass of water, I poured a small amount over the one of the bamboo stalks. This leaf worked as a perfect little slide for the water, with the leaf holding on to the droplet.

Processing for today's picture was relatively tame. I started with a gradient map that I masked out to just the bottom of the leaf. I then sharpened the leaf and evened out the color for background.
