I was born in the US, and lived there until I was 22. I always felt out of place; if you'd pressed me, I don't think I'd have been able to explain why.
In 1992 I followed my heart to Canada after I met someone online. (We're still together.) When I became a citizen of Canada almost two years ago, I couldn't sing the national anthem because I was crying too much. I never expected to feel like a real, patriotic citizen of anywhere.
I like it here. It's nice.
