Skyscrapers, Tokyo, Japan

Skyscrapers, Tokyo, Japan by soylentgreen23.
Would you believe this is a crop from a 1.3 megapixel camera - and one with a fixed lens? I still haven't taken a skyscraper shot as well as this one with my Nikon D50 - although I do owe a debt of gratitude to Tokyo for being such a photographer's paradise.

Great angle! The black sky really sets off the building.

Nice subject. Very good post processing choice. Yet, bad camera does some bad things here so called lens distortion. Lines are not straight, the seem to be like some sloppy curves. Take a shot with a better lens and it can be perfect :)

I had to get closer to the screen - yep, now I believe :) great shot as for such a camera :) first of all, the lines are amazing - you had a great idea for this angle - I don't think it could be better. it would look better without the other building behind but I can't expect you to use explosives... :)

have to disagree (for a change) with both of the previous raters...

This is a very well executed image, and my only complain is the small size... However, as an architectural capture I think it is brilliant.

My recommendation goes not to the quality of the image, but as how you are presenting it... and it goes both of the title and in the description.

For example... Imagine you are presented with a photo of a flower, a red flower.... and the title is : Red Flower. It doesn’t really make sense, does it? I mean.. its way to simple.

If instead of the title you have now, you had (and I am just making this up) 4456 Hanushimi St. they you would be presenting a "portrait" of a particular building. Right now... it is a boring title, sorry.

On the description, why let yourself down from the beginning! You don’t need to explain that this is a crop of a larger image... this is the complete image you are presenting, and if you explain too much about your camera, you are giving options for people not liking it.

Probably the only words I would use in the description are: Tokyo, Japan. (and quite honestly even using the word Japan is an "overkill" since I believe that most user of flickr would know where is Tokyo.

HAVING SAID THAT... I come back to the image. One of my favorite architectural shoots, and I am here to rate your images, not your marketing skills - however I have to admit that it was funny reading the "hint, hint Sergio" message you left for me in another capture!

This is one of my faves, and as such it has my highest marks.

Excellent perspective, the lines are all nicely captured, the sky is given a portion and everything has this fantastic sense of *scale* to it. I like the grain alot in this photo, making it almost look like an older photo. I want to know if the slight bulge really is lens distortion, or its the actual building.

Very impressive image. Great sense of scale, parallel lines reaching for the skies! Great control of your exposure, contrast and (non) colour. Giving a good portion of sky helps the composition. Good eye for a crop.

Very good composition . The "weight" of the building is perfect against the dark sky. As well as the lines. Good one !

Elegant and balanced composition. Black and white is the perfect choice for this photo. Because of the pure surface I am a little distracted by the black dot ( I checked the large version to make sure it wasn't just a dust on my screen).

I too like the choice of colour, and also love the lines. it makes for a very dizzy effect when scrolling up and down on my small screen.

Maybe i missed it in one of the previous comments, but what is that black dot near the top of the building? Perhaps a larger photo would tel me?

the building behind, mmmm, what to do. Actually i think buying some explosives would be worth the few extra pounds. LOL Of course nothing you can do about it, but it just doesnt fit for me.

Great shot!!
Clean lines and the composition is perfect. I think that B&W really makes this photo 'pop' - very strong.

This shot was technically well executed. Good lighting, focus. Good contrast for B&W. The subject is nice, but not super.
