Me, driving home from work.
Leeds Traffic by tricky ™.
Another shot of car-headlight trails in leeds. The bridge in the forground is the one i took this shot (looking back this way) and this shot (looking the other way)

Wow, looking at the date and time, it could well be you caught me coming home from work here!

he he. been thinking about taking a shot from here for a couple of weeks, made the effort to wonder up and do it at last (didnt hang around though, it's not the safest looking part of town).

Was quite impressed that the road planners had the fore-thought to place a wall sloping down towards the road too, so no need for a tripod.

Need to try to get here at rush-hour some time, it's the intersection of 5 roads - i reckon it would be cool to have lots of traffic on all of them.

Might be an idea to get a few people there together all having a go, rather than hanging around there on your own like you say?

It'd obviously be followed by a pint or three later and involve nuts!

A very nice night shot. Everything is very clear and in focus.

Good job!

Amazingly vivid picture. Did you play with WB settings or why do the lights appear so blue?

@ moritz: thanks, yes, i did tinker with the white balance, i prefer to remove the yellowyness of the street lamps so i set the white/neutral point to the road (given its pretty much gray) and hey presto.

Yes, I also don't like the yellow cast of the street lamps. I like the cooler light much better. :-)

I love this photo. I took a similar one (possibly from the same area) and really like the effect gained from a slow shutter speed.

Love the reams of light, I'd love to know how to do this!

@Nat - it's fairly easy, its just a case of finding a good vantage point with lots of traffic.

Compacts aren't ideal as you want to maximise the amount of time the shutter is open for ( so with a SLR camera you switch to shutter priority mode and pick around 15 seconds or so). What i'd try doing is switching off the flash, switch the camera to manual mode, and set the ISO value to as low a number as possible (this should result in the longest exposure your camera can manage). You could also try setting the exposure compensation as high as possible too, though i'd try without that first.

Then all you need to do is wait for darkness and find a suitable location where there's lots of traffic and something flat you can balance your camera on (as practice you could turn the lights off at home, and use a torch or something to see how well it works first).... then switch to self timer mode - you want to avoid touching the camera while it's taking the shot to avoid blurring).

Thanks for the tips, I will try this out, especially when I get a better camera still!
