Isengard
This scene will no doubt be familiar to any big fan (like me) of the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. Isengard / Orthanc was positioned, with the help of computer imagery, in the paddocks on the right of the image.
Photo taken from near the summit of Mt Alfred (1375 m).

Thanks for the invite Darryn! The photo was taken on New Years Day 2003 (have now updated the date). We have a big snow storm moving up the country as I type, so no doubt the above scene is completely white at the moment!

Damm it! All these pics of Mt Alfred really make me want to walk up it tomorrow. However, that's certainly not a possibility after all the snow today. Oh well, hopefully in Spring.

hi there, this is spendid!!! Do you know the exact location of this place? How long does it take to trek up there? Do you have to pay for a guide or entrance fees at all? Tks^^
Daniel Murray (southnz) (54 months ago | reply)
@Vitamin - thanks for the comment. The image is geo-referenced so take a look at the map link. It's about a 2-3 hour climb, you don't need a guide, and it doesn't cost a cent!
