Tiger leech

After the boat trip on the Kinabatangan we disembark to start a jungle trek. Our toothless guide is one of those amazing creatures on earth that can spot the smallest living thing in his forest and show it to his wildlife disciples. He find for us stick insects, crab spiders, the world smallest frog among many others. But for the most feared being in the forest we don't need him: the leech. They are easily spotted by the females in our group that have been warned by others preceding our voyage through the dense forest the day before. "Taking-a-shower-and-finding-these-blood-sucking-friends-in-your-crotch"-stories will make any girl be alert like a airport narcotic dog on patrol.

Meet the tigerleech, the biggest kind we encountered. And yes, that is my thumb...
