it's a fabulous find but as a photo it's too minimalist for me. I'd like a little more to explore and look at.

Like it - and it reminds me of the temperature outside the window here...

The textured background robs the ice of its impact. The drain pipe should be somewhat lower in accordance with rule of thirds.

Simple and great. The blue background works well and the ice feels natural in its colour. Screw rule of thirds!

I want more detail on the ice.

Impressed with the simplicity of it and great background detail, a drop of water on the end of the icicle or a bit more texture in the ice would have saved it.

it's a little off the rule of thirds but i belive it's right in the golden section. nicely done

ah...I knew that after the leaves were exhausted, the icicle shots would come...this is a nice one though...but I have to agree with more texture and detail on the ice.

I like it, but the treatment of this subject could be better. For instance, it could be darker and a little more contrast would be better.

The angle you took this from causes me to feel uncomfortable. That, and the composition, as well as the colour, make it a save for me.

It's a save, great shot. Photography should never be about the rules or we'ld all be chunneling out the same rubbish...

    Is it cold?

  46. Elkhead (91 months ago | reply)

Great contrast in texture between the wall and the icicle. The predominant colour - blue - is perfect for the subject. Compositionally, the pipe is well placed in the frame, just above a "rule of thirds" point so that it balances its weight nicely against the long length of the icicle. Also, there's a great feeling of cold conveyed by the static stillness of the ice.
    Altogether beyond criticism!
    Well done!
