The market hall of Albi

The market hall of Albi

In 1901 the city of Albi decides the construction of a new market hall. The project will be awarded to Mr. André Jules Michelin (the future inventor of rubber tyres). A complete district was destroyed for the construction of the hall. The structure is metallic (as it was usual in 1900) and designed to house 25 butcher shops, 10 fish mongers and 115 shops comprising groceries, fruit & vegetables as well as cheese shops.

Until 1982, this market was the only one in the city of Albi. Nowadays there several open markets.
