Janes' Angel
|
My son used go to swimming lessons every
Wednesday evening . I occasionally drove
him there when my wife could not. The
first time I drove him, I noticed a
cemetery near Wicklow Town, where the
swimming pool was.
A few Wedsnesdays later I ventured in
with my Canon. It was my first visit to
a cemetery with a camera.
I was almost instantly drawn to one
gravestone in particular, of a cross
with an angel, unlike any I have seen
before or since. I had this strange
feeling that I had seen it before, or
maybe that it had been waiting for me a
long time to find it. It's sad &
sublime expression moved me, against all
rational sense.
I kept going back maybe one Wednesday
every month for a few minutes or so
& each time I was sure that was it,
that I could'nt possibly get anymore
from it, that I'd used up all the angels
angles, the set was now complete...until
the next time inevitable
"last" visit...
This gravestone depicts, to the best of
my knowledge, the angel called
Michael...
This Angel looks over the grave of one
Jane Nolan, of Wicklow Town, who died
on January 4th 1915...in who's memory
this set is dedicated. May she rest in
Peace.
