On our road trip I started researching ghost towns and we found this place along the way, named Cerillos in New Mexico. We drove around and found some interesting stuff but Mary's bar is where we stayed awhile and met some locals and had a beer.
The bar is the only restaurant/bar/store in the entire town, there's nowhere to even buy food if you want to eat, you have to drive something like 15 miles out of town. A few locals were hanging around and Adnan bought them a beer and in exchange they let me snap a few photos. We hung out chatting with them awhile, drinking our $3 beers.
Some local girls popped up and began squirting us with their play guns, all in good fun.
It was like time stopped in that town. Inside the bar I chatted with the owner, who was the daughter of Mary. There was a poster for the film Young Guns, which I remember watching as a child. It was torn and crooked on the wall. I realized it must have been filmed there, which the proprietor verified. I walked closer and saw signatures on the poster by the cast members including Emilio Estavez. I felt bad for the town, knowing how great it must have been during the filming of that movie..how they tasted Hollywood and fame..but that it vanished and there's nothing much going on there anymore.
We paid for our drinks and said our goodbyes and headed out.
