Detroit Exploration
On the weekend of August 19, 2006, anargonian, enigmatix1, sublimemonkey and I went to Detroit to explore some of the buildings there. In the two days we visited Michigan Central Station, the Packard Auto Plant, and the Detroit Public School Storage warehouse. All were very impressive in their own ways. For the Packard plant, we met up with R3D, Chad and others of the SurvivalCrackas and their company was much appreciated and welcome.
What can you say about Detroit that hasn't been said before? From 2 million people to less than 1 million. From an incredible gem of industrial might, to the urban ruins of its decline. All in about 40 years. But this magnificent city should not be counted out. Since as recent as 2001, people are reclaiming once dead spaces and neighbourhoods. Like a lethargic phoenix, Detroit is slowly beginning a long, slow, rise from the ashes. In the mean time, though, the bold will find this the true king of urban exploration in North America.
