olives, capers

olives, capers by smitten.
Have I ever mentioned how much I hate those salad bar style olive bars? So, so very much.
First, the quality of the olives is usually awful. Just because they look all rustic laid out doesn't mean they're not skimping like crazy on the quality. Trust me, they come from a large bucket in the back. Second, they're always too salty. Brine isn't just salt, it's a developed flavor. I can never taste the actual olive within. Third, ick, they're so unsanity. You've got no way of know if they just keep adding more new olives to old ones while some of that oil has been out for months and bleh.

I'm sorry. I got a little sidetracked. When, on a rare occasion, I can find a good quality imported olive in a can or jar, I get them instead. Air tight, they always taste better. These are from an Israeli brand, and were perfect for cooking and snacking.
