Smithsonian Folklife Festival |
The Smithsonian is happy to join the
Flickr community. Take a short survey and tell us how we’re doing.
The Smithsonian Folklife Festival (1967-present, formerly the Festival of
American Folklife) is an annual event on
the National Mall. From its inception in
1967, the festival has featured
performers, crafts people, and local
community groups from across the country
and around the world; it is a
celebration of grassroots culture and
occupations. This selection of images
from the Ralph Rinzler Folklife Archives and
Collections is from various years of the festival
and is intended to convey the range of
traditions and occupations represented.
Images from early years were scanned
from slides or negatives, while most
images from 2002 onwards were taken with
a digital camera.
