Now there's a smart looking uniform, a sharp contrast to the sweat suits often worn currently

This was over a hundred years ago, when handwritten letters meant a whole lot more than they do today.
No satellite t.v., no cell phones or internet. Telephones were still considered new, as were electric lights--and electricity, for that matter. Ice boxes, milk in bottles and cops in every town, walking their beat. Mark Twain was in his last year of life, while the Wright brothers were making headlines in South Carolina.
The idea of a world war was laughable, yet only six years away. There was no income tax to speak of. Women couldn't vote.
Marching bands in small towns all over the country would give free concerts of John Philip Souza's music in public parks on lazy summer evenings, while people sat in wooden folding chairs, drank lemonade and tea and engaged one another in friendly, idle chatter.
It was a culture and a time far removed from us--a hundred years ago and a world away.

This photo is beautiful. It's amazing to think about how far mailing solutions-- and everything else--- has come since then.
