Those were the days. No electricity. But honest hand work. I still prefer a good heavy pestle and motar above one of those fast grinding machines. It gets you more in contact with the food you are preparing...

There is a house in Gravendam

Gravendam is the reconstructed medieval village in the Archeon. It shows life as it was in the Netherlands around 1350 AD.
This house owned by a weaver was empty when I walked past it. A sign on the door read "Gone to the market".

The end...

And another one bit the dust.

It was a fierce fight. And the Lanista did not like loosing his best fighter. But the crowd loved it.

Game on!

After the introduction both gladiators greet the Editor with the famous line:"morituri te salutem"; those who are about to die salute you.
And the game begins.

Lanista

The Lanista was the owner of a Gladiator school and usually introduced the gladiators to the public. Since he did not want to loose his best fighters he always made sure that they were fighting an opponent that surely was weaker (and often cheaper on the slave market)
