Grapes with an EULA
These grapes came with an End User License Agreement. In the small print at the bottom it says:
The recipient of the produce contained in this package agrees not to propagate or reproduce any portion of the produce, including (but not limited to) seeds, stems, tissue and fruit.
WTF!

It says "including seeds", but it's seedless. Is that fruit equivalent of DRM?
ChurchHatesTucker (45 months ago | reply)
How lucky we are that these people were able to create grapes from scratch! Otherwise, we'd be grapeless!

Does that mean you can't spill any of the juice? Or does "propagate" mean "grow"?

Monsanto strikes again.

Darn, I'll have to put away my home cloning kit. :( Not sure how else they thought someone would propagate from the fruit of a seedless grape...
I got the same kind of EULA on a plant I bought for the garden. Guess I'm going back to heirloom varieties.

hahaha!

Which means they've obtained a patent on that variety, à la Proven Winners. I'm pretty sure there's a special place in Hell for those people.

And why does it claim to be from the USA in English and from the EU in French?
theducks (45 months ago | reply)
@ damienguard : The french language term for the USA is "Estats Unis", or E-U. The usually call the European Union the European Community, or EC.
Ingo2 (45 months ago | reply)
It's Etats Unis, but yes, you're generally correct.

Makes me want to go out and buy some just to propagate them. Bastards! We need to take back our food supply!!
suppafly (45 months ago | reply)
I hope someone propagates them just to spite the company.
ChurchHatesTucker (45 months ago | reply)
EU=Estados Unidos (Spanish for United States) in this case.

"Seedless" fruits, like watermelons, grapes, etc., do usually have seeds, but they are genetically manipulated to be smaller, less obvious, and ultimately edible. Genetic manipulation being hybridization, cross-breeding, or other technological processes...

hahaha... Glad that you got it.. :)
So you should be careful when you dispose the waste.. make sure they don't have seeds... they might propagate (grow) into trees ... just in case... so you need to be more careful of the grapes having seeds than the company.... the company might sue you for recreating their seedless grapes from seeds... ;)

That can't possibly be a contract:
The recipient agrees to all of that in exchange for what?
Technologik (45 months ago | reply)
I wonder if they add hidden devices and drivers to your refrigerator?
Also, what happens when you evacuate the grapes from your body, if there were seeds in them, wouldn't they travel to their final destination and possibly germinate elsewhere? At least that's what happens with the rest of the animal kingdom.
Wow, people will think of anything, to cover their butts won't they?!

Sounds like Monsanto! They own food, period.
