Cattle Collection |
During the summer of 1999, something odd
yet entertaining lumbered into Chicago.
With little initial fanfare, over 450
head of colorful, bizarre, and
delightful cattle appeared throughout
the streets of the city. In cooperation
with Cows on Parade(tm), the City of
Chicago staged this huge public art
exhibit in the city that once was the
center of the cattle industry in
America.
Captured within this collection are a
wide range of cows that we managed to
stumble across during our many trips
downtown. Included with each photograph
(whenever possible) is the title of the
cow and the artist. If you want to know
more about the cattle, please visit the
official Cows on ParadeTM website.
I've decided to dedicate this
collection to my aunt, Mavis, who is a
wonderful artist and collects all kinds
of cows. Though not related to her
collecting, she and my uncle, Arnie,
also tend to a herd of live cattle just
footsteps from their front door. I
doubt, however, that they have ever seen
cattle like this in their pasture. If
they have seen a few of these colorful
cows wandering about on the prairie,
well...
