I can only assume with fire like this, your house could be made of stone and still catch on fire. When I turned on the news this morning, they were showing a fire hydrant burning. Its not the flames that's getting to everything, its the heat.

Wow, that's nuts. I'd be scared as crap and unable to sleep if the fires were that close. Hicks97 and I thought of you this morning while watching the story on CNN. On the radio on the way in, I heard them say that situations are perfect right now for a once in a decade super fire.

Be safe.

Miss Brown Eyes: Thanks. And yeah, it IS a bit scary.

alpha_harblo: Thanks man. So far we're still being told that we're safe. And yeah, once the fire gets hot enough, just about anything will burn. Using less flammable materials will at least keep stray embers from igniting ones home, however. Thanks for the link. And you were up REAL late (or is it early?).

photo2c: Yeah. Fortunately there aren't any wood shake roofs in my neighborhood, for example. There aren't a lot of highly flammable eucalyptus trees, either.

hirosan: Thanks. The fires are about 9 or 10 miles away at the moment. I hope they don't get any closer.

brainylagirl: Thank you.

bossco: Thanks. So far we're okay. And thanks for the info on Palm Springs - should we need to evacuate.

Paul: Indeed. It's kind of scary.

Barb's Photos2006: Thanks. Fortunately the winds - around my part of town - are acting favorably.

LiQUiD: Insane, isn't it?

Snowfire11Ro: I'm kind of used to it, but my wife is a lot more nervous, however.

Eileen: We have some stuff packed - just in case.

mike27112: Thanks. This was taken with a zoom lens, so the fire isn't quite as close to me as it looks. On the other hand, it's not real far either. It's about 9 or 10 miles away.

Jack: Thanks yet again. Added.

Exiter: You can say that again. Thanks.

jetsquirrell: I do, but this is a bit TOO much fire. Thanks for the well wishes. :-)

morgrar: Indeed. Hopefully this thing will be under control soon.

lilith penguin: Indeed. Fortunately the fire hasn't made it's way to Santee just yet. Let's just hope it stays away.

bookish: Thanks. So far we haven't been told to leave. Hopefully the fire will stay away.

Drewzer: Indeed. I really hope they can get this thing contained real soon.

pilgrim elaine: Thanks for the compliments and invitation to post to the group. :-)

werewolf: Thanks man.

Jack: Thank you. Added.

RYAN: Yeah, it's crazy down here. Hope Tracy is okay.

I work with the PBS/NPR station in San Francisco and I'd like to use your photo on our website, www.kqed.org, to illustrate our ongoing coverage of the wild fires. Let me know if you would like us to cite your name or flickr username in a photo credit.

Please be safe.
