Bestwood factory entrance - VEB Faserplattenwerke,Ribnitz-Damgarten
The entrance gates through which 2000 people would pour in GDR times.
Bestwood was the privatised name of
the huge former VEB Faserplattenwerke which made fibreboard - MDF - on the land of the former Bachmann aeroplane works further west beside the KVG depot. It was served by a railway branch line west of Ribnitz which is now overgrown. More about the corruption following privatisation of the firm and ownership by Knyder of Bison-Werke in Hamburg, eventual bankruptcy and worker occupation here and especially here
After being sold for DM1, millions of Marks of publicly invested money went up in smoke..well actually ended up in Swiss banks...in a classical Rover style sting.
The layout of the factory may be seen in this display in the nearby Technik Museum at Puetnitz.
This factory would seem an ideal target for an urban guerilla industrial archaeological photographical break-in (not by me!)
The logo on the stationery of this VEB is here
