in the wildewoods

in the wildewoods

alternative, and some say better, version of this Photo.

Only you can decide. but I prefer the earlier attempt. Once again a it's a free hand "tree-pan-blur-shot"... a term I appear to have invented. So that's one we can all use and know where it comes from when it shows up in the photo magazine's and books!

A little about the location - see tag. I grew up playing in these woods and some many years earlier, so did the author Thomas Hardy (Far from the maddening crowd etc). Now I don't like his books, because you have to read them if you go to school in Dorset. but anyway. I like the idea that i share a space where a legendary author also swung from the same trees i did.... some of them are old enough.

it's not going to lead to Narnia

it's not going to lead to Narnia

Not your usual type of shot of this classic view... but I'm not usual. That and I spent a little while cleaning the filth off of the image. I don't know how I do it but my filters just get filthy instantly no matter how much I clean them on and off of the camera...

... oh and this is where I learned to swim.

the singular of sheep

the singular of sheep

this perhaps moodier than I intended but such was the need as the shot had a lot of flaws in it - I didn't have a graduated filter on at the time because someone else was using it to take this shot...

The only other thing to note is the line of the ground - this isn't barrel distortion or wonky camera holding, I'm looking up at a ridge and that's the natural line of the hill. I could have straightened it out, but I thought it would be too clinical... only you can decide if that was smart or lazy...

I'd click on the picture or hit 'L' as this white background doesn't work for this shot.... does it ever?
