This is a great shot. I love compositions like this where the people become simply minimal elements of the overall photograph. There is a lot to keep the eye busy here.

I think I prefer the color version as well. Or maybe it's just the way it's processed. The B&W versions seems to lack local contrast, at least on my monitor. But these things are obviously quite subjective.
