Whooooooooooooshhhhhhhh!!!!!

As well as the clever PS stuff, I like the brooding sky!

Hey, Paul! I’ve had a go at ‘tilt shift’. Not as exciting an image as your ice cream van, but great fun trying it out!

Love this... I can imagine the little girl jetting off over the rooftops, and the assembled crowd watching awestruck.

I have been inundated with emails with how this was done, well 1 person asked ;)

First of all I created a cutout, there are many ways to achieve this as discussed here:
www.flickr.com/groups/technique/discuss/7335/

How I did this one was create two versions: A colour and a black and white version.
I opened the two versions in PS, then moved the B&W version over the colour one to create two layers. Then in the B&W layer I used the eraser tool to rub out the girl and rocket, this takes a little time and it is best to zoom in for the edges. When I was happy I merged the two images to create the cutout.

I was then flicking through some old photography magazines and I came across a method to add Scottish mist to photos, which gave me the idea for the vapour trail. I then found a photo with a decent cloud, and then copied and cut the cloud into a new transparent layer, I then stretched the cloud for my own means. For the effect I used this cloud three times, changing the size each time. To insert the cloud into to cutout I pasted it as a new layer, and then changed the ‘blend mode’ to ‘screen’. Thereafter changing the opacity to give a more vapour like quality. I then moved the layer to the desired section of the photo. This I did three times to join, the form the vapour trail.

I hope this helps, and I apologise but I do not know how to do this in PSP :(

Regards

Paul
