Sketching on the beach, Summer 2012. The trouble with sketching in very bright sunlight is that without sunglasses you just get flat, white light across everything. And with sunglasses? you think you're painting in dark shades but they all look much flatter without your sunglasses. Any solutions anyone? No chance of sitting in a shady spot here, or I would have tried that.

I had the same problem in Mass. last week. The umbrella blew away and I was left in blinding light. The only solution for me is to be under an umbrella. I can't see and colour with sunglasses on.

.........sketch in an air- conditioned indoor cafe! :-)
Awesome sketch...especially given the circumstances!

I haven't sketched at a beach recently, but I find sunglasses change the colors too much but hats work. Sometimes I think a darker colored, brimmed hat works better with the glare. Which seems counter-intuitive with wanting a hat that's going to keep you cool. Which is why I’ve packed an off-white sunhat AND a brown one for SD.
I love this series at the beach Suhita. Maybe a little of your fleet-handed approach will rub off on me this week. See you soon!!!!

Great beach scenes Suhita, oh to be sketching in the summer again! I agree about sunglasses, a hat works for me.

Now for a recommendation for a good, wide-brimmed hat... and a stool. I need both of those for my trip to India this winter!

You're lucky to have the sunshine. We just get rain! Paint it flat and bright! Your pic is great!
