It's empty right now.....but the lights are on in different areas - strange considering they said all the wiring and fuse boxes were in the basement that flooded......strange....they also say it's riddled with asbestos - but so was the building that the D-Day/National World War II museum is in before they renovated it, if private industry can handle it why can't the state?

Fear not for this building Jeff, It will not be torn down, more than likely it will be a hospital again, at least that is where my money is....if not a hospital then condos

Wow. I had no idea Charity Hospital was so huge. It would cost a hell of a lot of money just to tear it down -- so you're probably right, Skeletonkrewe -- they'll find some use for it.

So they decided not to tear it down? I am so happy to hear that. I drove past this yesterday when I was in town visiting and was just fascinated by it. Such a beautiful building, it is a shame to see it empty and so neglected. I hope they save the metal artwork above the front door and reuse it if the city does decide to tear it down. It is too beautiful to trash it.

Thanks for posting this.

p.s. what I like about the architecture is the way the building seems to envelope you with outstretched "arms" when approaching the front door. It's the perfect design for a hospital called "Charity."
