Litter in the woods

Litter in the woods

I went for a hike on Saturday into the woods behind our backyard and stumbled across this about a half mile in. It was tucked away off to the side of the trail at the bottom of a gulley along with one other old car. I couldn't figure out exactly what it was, I'm guessing it's a Plymouth from the early 60s.

Taken with the iPhone 4S, it's impressive how great that camera is. Sharp as a tack when used right and the colors turned out nice and warm. My only complaint is crapy bokeh in the background.

Old National Bank

Old National Bank

Early in the morning at 4:56am in Harrisburg IL, an F4 twister created an 8 mile long scar across town. Two hundred and fifty or more homes were damaged or destroyed. We made a road trip down there over the weekend and I was able to get a few shots (I limited myself to the commercial areas out of respect). Most of the town was roadblocked off, I would guess that there were at least 30 state troopers in the area. We found this commercial plaza across the street from the Walmart (amazingly one of the few things that survived in the storms path), initially there was a state trooper posted to keep the looters out. I was fortunate that after a few minutes of waiting he left for a bit and I was able to walk around the area. With a little creativity we were also able to work our way around a few of the other road blocks and drive around many of the damaged areas.

It reminds be a bit of a Craig Morgan song I heard (www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSdItuvBxc8), the damage is sad but they'll rebuild it. The real tragedy is the ones that died that morning and the ones who lost their loved ones.

Untouched fire extinguisher

Untouched fire extinguisher

Strangely this fire extinguisher sits in the middle of the parking lot while everything else around it was reduced to rubble.
