Packet Visualizer: Making the internet look coolIn order to view this Flickr video, you'll need to install the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player. I wrote the software to do this myself. It takes a bunch of packets from tcpdump and visualizes their structure....and animates them over time. Trying to turn it into both an analysis tool as well as an art project.
If youre familiar with TCP/IP headers, the horizontal axis is byte 0 - 1500. The vertical access is value of the byte in a given position. The leftmost side is primarily packet header data, the righthand side is packet payload. It's colored by combination of how high/low a given value is compared to others previously seen in that same place in the packet and the first byte of the source IP's seen. I'll be releasing the application once it's "user friendly" for everyone else and consistently stable. Written in Objective-C/Cocoa/Core Data/Core Animation The video is more shaky/jittery than the app is....the app is pretty smoothly animated. recording it and running it at the same time just taxed my laptop too much. email me at sintixerr@gmail.com for more info Would you like to comment?Sign up for a free account, or sign in (if you're already a member). |
