Fall in SNP

I'm not sure what I think about this shot. What do you think?

I took this one at an overlook on Skyline Drive back in October when the leaves were just starting to change. I liked the cracks in the rock and the lone red tree. I ended up having to do a little more Photoshop than usual in this one to even out the exposure on the ridge. No matter how I tried, the edge of my graduated ND filter burned the edge of the ridge too dark, so I used a little dodging in Photoshop to lighten it up.

Autumn at the Reservoir

We had another blustery, rainy weekend here in the Valley, so here's a shot of the Fall foliage at Swift Creek Reservoir in the central part of the state. I liked the way the ripples created nice lines pointing to the Fall color.

Shortly after I took this shot, I heard a kingfisher's call. I worked my way along the shore, rounded a bend and spotted him sitting on a bare branch in the water not 10 feet away from me .... just in time to see him fly away. It would have been an awesome shot if he had stuck around just a few more seconds, but such is my luck with kingfishers! We also spotted a great blue heron and an osprey that morning, but none of them were willing to pose for pictures.

Dark Chocolate Spice Cupcakes

Deep, dark chocolate cupcakes with a little bit of mystery. Great for grown-ups! (Kids would probably think they're not sweet enough.)
