I probably don't have to point out this isn't a recent photograph! This was one of my favorites from this past summer but somehow it never got shared on Flickr. It did make an appearance on my 2012 calendar though! (Links still available on my website if you don't have one yet.)

Although the weather this winter has been somewhat mild, it's been a rollercoaster - 60s one day, teens the next. This photo makes me wish for warmer, greener times!

Happy 2012 Flickr friends! 2011 went by in the blink of an eye. I'm hoping to find more time for Flickr and my photos in the year ahead.

I think it's safe to say this will be my closest encounter ever with a peregrin falcon. I got to see this beautiful bird close enough to pet, with no bars or cages between us, at the Center for Birds of Prey in Charleston, SC this past April.

It's been long enough now that I can't remember if this bird had a name (I think maybe they told me they don't name their birds?), but I'm fairly sure it was a female. I do remember her handler trying to remove that feather from her beak and not being able to because she wouldn't let him :)

I still have a bunch of photos from this past year that I need to share. Since I've been knocked down and out by a nasty cold, I figure I might as well do something useful with all this couch time!

This is Taughannock Falls surrounded by autumn colors, from our trip to NY back in October. Last time we visited we took the shorter, easier hike to the base of the falls. This time we hiked the rim trail which, while more difficult, had much better views of the falls as payoff.

Update 12-15-2011: I was hoping to have a good news to share in a few weeks or months, but Jake took a turn for the worse this week. He was put to sleep Thursday afternoon. He will be missed dearly.

This is Jake, my parents' dog. I took this photo in May, when he was snoring away on "his" chair by the window.

Jake injured his back somehow, and after a trip to the hospital on Friday it was determined that he has a severe spinal cord injury. He is paralyzed from the waist down, most likely permanently. The hospital is keeping him for the weekend to see if there's any improvement, but the outlook is not good. This has been heartbreaking for our whole family. Jake is only 5 years old.
