Homesteads out in Oregon's tilly-willies often have large piles of woodchips for various reasons. While some of the more industrious self-supporters will innoculate their piles with edible mushroom spores, most sprout one 'shroom or another on their own. Nature abhores a vacuumn, you know.
Each pile on Marsha's property had a different fruiting body popping up with the long-awaited rain. Unfortunately, these piles also are full of carpenter ants, which invade the home during particularly dry spells like the one we were having until we finally got our moisture.
