The Island Stolb
Stolb the island, a huge rock formation (up to 104 m altitude), which shows us the way to the Arctic Ocean. The course of the river Lena ended here on his way to the Arctic Ocean, "Bykov-Cape."
With a little luck you can already see the Northern Lights.
The island has been formed in the Paleozoic Stolb. Actually reminds the island on a large flat hill with steep slopes than on a pillar. Is viewed from different angles "Stolb" each time a different form.
Matthiesen 1920, the expedition "Stolb" measured and built on its summit a landmark. There is also a pile of old ritual with offerings.
From the top you can survey the entire southern Lena Delta. Also on the summit stands a memorial cross in honor of the American researcher George De Longhi, who came there in the summer of 1881 killed as was his sailing ship "Jeanetta" crushed by the ice. The Cross reminds all researchers who have given their lives in the exploration of the Arctic Ocean.
At the exact point is where the warm waters of the Lena, with the cold waters of the Arctic Ocean, which results in wonderful optical illusions through the fog. Sometimes acts like the rock from which nothing magic in the Lena.
