The Bread Pt 1: Le Panier, Macrina, Dahlia Bakery

My bread loving twin ;) tooted about the superior carbs found in Seattle, so on this quick trip out we did a whirlwind tour.

Henry said that he liked Le Panier's baguette for sandwiches. It had a thin crust and a spongy light crumb. As you can see, Le Panier is a "Very French Bakery."

We stopped by Dahlia Bakery where Lorna picked up a beautiful lemon tart. I just admired from afar.

Macrina's breads are used at many establishments (e.g. Mike's in the Market (Rustic Potato), Veil, & Mistral (Rustic Potato - very moist and fine crumb, Sour White, Wheat Herb Walnut)), but I had to stop by the bakery and pick up a number of items to munch on including the Vollkorn Roll, Orange Currant Scone, Cherry Almond Scone, a large slice of the Squash Harvest Bread and a loaf of the Whole Wheat Cider. I also tried some of their Challah (a little dry), however I prefer the challah from Harbord Bakery in TO. :) That just means that while I'm in TO I won't be longing too badly for breads from out west.

(Lorna, you'll have to try the challah from Harbord and my fav baguette from Pain Perdu (736 St Clair Avenue West )! If you're every by ACME Breads again, do have their baguette - so tasty too!)
