Ruined symmetry
This shot was taken inside what was once the HQ of the Imperial Japanese Navy on Peleliu. Prior to landing troops on Peleliu, the US used warships to heavily shell Peleliu. While they managed to largely destroy official structures such as this one, they mistakenly believed they'd also managed to decimate the Japanese garrison of 11,000 men. In reality, those soldiers were hiding in the caves they'd dug into the rock, waiting for the Americans to land.
