Chicago Loop lightning strike

Newer Older

08042008 - A SEVERE storm blew through the Windy City around 8:22pm. There was a tremendous amount of rain, wind, thunder and lightning. The windows bowed and suspended lights swung. - At times you could not see out the window - good night.

Doug ~ 2300 hrs....got stuck driving home on the Kennedy
in it when it picked up again with the 2nd cell.
On top of the most terrifyingly non-stop beautiful lighting....
and the rain smashing sideways on our windshields
at full speed...a huge cloud started rolling onto the
Kennedy where folks didn't know if there was a crash
ahead, or what? With the rain, the non-stop
    most blastingly brilliant lightning,
and the cloud that was magnifying the lightning in our
    eyes....we all became blinded and
the whole Kennedy came to a stop with folks
just stopping and putting on their flashers in the middle
of the expressway with this cloud dropping down
and covering us in addition to the wind, rain and
lightning. It was the most terrifying drive ever!
I said later....it was like we were driving straight into
    hell.

From the height of your building...I can't even imagine
the movement in your building. You had to be pretty
shaken yourself. You probably don't have a basement
    to run to either!

    Thanks for sharing with us.
I can now view it in the safety of my little chair
on my little 'puter. Much more enjoyable.
    And........I generally LOVE thunderstorms.
